BLP Spring 2020 Musical Production: ‘Xanadu’
The engaging and challenging musical ‘Xanadu’ will be our Spring 2020 main stage production. This show has been on BLP’s radar for a long time and we’ve been waiting for the right time to tell this hysterically self-deprecating story.
Our high school program will meet one to two times a week and teach the theatrical process through production. This program will culminate in a production of the exciting and dynamic musical ‘Xanadu’. This program will be open to students currently in grades 8 – 12 as of September ‘19.
Xanadu follows the journey of a magical and beautiful Greek muse, Kira, who descends from the heavens of Mount Olympus to Venice Beach, California in 1980 on a quest to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny, to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time – the first ROLLER DISCO! (Hey, it’s 1980!) But, when Kira falls into forbidden love with the mortal Sonny, her jealous sisters take advantage of the situation, and chaos abounds.
Xanadu is a moving, electrifying tale of endless fun that will keep audiences in stitches while the original legendary, chart-topping tunes lift them out of their seats. You’ll want to keep the music in your head and Xanadu in your heart… forever.

Spring 2020 Musical Production: ‘Dogfight’
The engaging and challenging musical ‘Dogfight’ will be our Spring 2020 main stage production. This show has been on BLP’s radar for a long time and we’ve been waiting for the right time to tell this nuanced and complicated story.
This main stage production will meet one to two times a week and teach the theatrical process through production. This program will culminate in a production of the exciting and dynamic musical ‘Dogfight;’. This program will be open to students currently in grades 9-12 as of September ‘19.
The hauntingly beautiful musical, Dogfight, by Pasek and Paul (Edges, James and the Giant Peach, A Christmas Story) and Peter Duchan, was praised by countless critics and nominated for numerous awards, winning the Lucille Lortel Award for Best Musical. Based on the 1991 Warner Brothers film, Dogfight takes audiences on a romantic and heartbreaking theatrical journey that stays with you long after the performance.
It’s November 21, 1963. On the eve of their deployment to a small but growing conflict in Southeast Asia, three young Marines set out for one final boys’ night of debauchery, partying and maybe a little trouble. But, when Corporal Eddie Birdlace meets Rose, an awkward and idealistic waitress whom he enlists to win a cruel bet with his fellow recruits, she rewrites the rules of the game and teaches him the power of love and compassion.
